Mike Flanagan’s Latest Stephen King Project Adds Chiwetal Ejiofor, Karen Gillan, and Jacob Tremblay

When Mike Flanagan isn’t adapting fiction with “house” in the title (The Haunting of Hill HouseThe Fall of the House of Usher), he’s adapting Stephen King. The director of Doctor Sleep is back in the Stephen King Cinematic Universe these days, writing and directing The Life of Chuck, which is based on a series of King stories that tell the story of one man’s life in reverse.

The film stars Tom Hiddleston and Mark Hamill, which is already good reason to be excited, but Deadline reports that three more excellent actors have joined up: Chiwetal Ejiofor (The Old Guard, pictured above), Karen Gillan (Gunpowder Milkshake), and Jacob Tremblay (Room).

For Gillan and Tremblay, this is a return to working with Flanagan, who really does love to cast the same actors again and again (see: Usher, in which all six terrible Usher children are played by Flanagan regulars). Tremblay was in Doctor Sleep and Before I Wake, while Gillan starred in Oculus a full decade ago.

Gillan and Ejiofor have spent a lot of time in that other cinematic universe—as Nebula and Baron Mordo, respectively—but presumably Flanagan will give them a little more room to stretch.

There’s no word on when The Life of Chuck will be released (or the roles any of these actors are playing), but the movie is in production now.
